Population increases water saving adhesion

In the last year, 78% of Greater SP's population reduced their consumption, resulting in 4,800 liters per second, which is sufficient to serve around 1,4 million people. In the region served by the Cantareira System, the savings adhesion was even better: 79% of the population reduced consumption

Once again the population of the Metropolitan Region of Sao Paulo understood the importance of the rational use of water and reduced its consumption. In December, as the first month of the implementation of the new bonus ranges, the water saving adhesion percentage went up to 79% from 78% registered in November. All efforst resulted ina 4,800 liters/second saving, a sufficient amount to serbe 1.4 million people. In November it was 4,100 liters per second. In order to have an idea of the relevance of this saving, Rio Claro System produces 4 thousand liters per second as it serves Sapopemba Neighborhood, in São Paulo, and part of the following Municipalities: Ribeirão Pires, Mauá e Santo André.

If on the one hand the percentage of dwellers remained stable for the 30% bonuns on the bill - 53% in December and November - the new bonus range announced last year allowed part of the population that already saved but did not reach the bonus to get the discount on their bills in December. In the last month, 7% reduced the consumption between 10% and 15% e paid 10% off; 6% saved between 15% and 20% and, therefore, received a 20% discount on ther bills.

In December, also, the percentage of customers who increased consumption decreased. In the last month, 22% increased their expenses with water and 24% in November. The portion of those who reduced consumption but did not get the bonus stayed at 12% in December against 23% in November. Such variation results from the new bonus range that benefited these people that saved water with no discount.

The new two ranges were in effect since November, 1st. Properties with a consumption reduction equal or greater than 10% and less than 15% receive a 10% discount; the ones who reduce from 15% to less than 20% have a 20% discount. The math is made using the the average consumption of the 12 months from February 2013 to January 2014. The 30% Discount for customers who save 20% or more is still valid.

This Benefit is for the municipalities of the Greater Sao Paulo Region: São Paulo, Arujá, Barueri, Biritiba-Mirim, Caieiras, Cajamar, Carapicuíba, Cotia, Diadema, Embu das Artes, Embu-Guaçu, Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Francisco Morato, Franco da Rocha, Itapecerica da Serra, Itapevi, Itaquaquecetuba, Jandira, Mairiporã, Mogi das Cruzes (bairros da divisa), Osasco, Pirapora do Bom Jesus, Poá, Ribeirão Pires, Rio Grande da Serra, Salesópolis, Santana de Parnaíba, São Bernardo do Campo, Suzano, Taboão da Serra e Vargem Grande Paulista; Região Bragantina: Bragança Paulista, Joanópolis, Nazaré Paulista, Pinhalzinho, Piracaia e Vargem; e Região de Campinas: Itatiba, Jarinu, Monte Mor, Paulínia, Hortolândia e Morungaba.
